From Grace to You

Soap is a unique and desirable artistic medium. There is no other medium with the same variability and versatility for expression.

It can be formulated to flow like water, for delicate, intricate swirls and natural, flowing landscapes. It can be thick like pudding, perfect for piping flowers and other extrusions. It can be firm and pliable like clay, ready to be carved, etched, or used as a canvas for palette-knife paintings. And it can be tuned from opaque to translucent to transparent, so light itself becomes part of the piece.

Then there is the thing that sets soap apart from every other art form: it melts as you use it. At first that sounds like a reason not to bother: why pour so much care into something so fleeting? But consider fireworks, or a beautifully decorated dessert. People all over the world delight in art that is meant to be enjoyed and then to pass. And soap offers something those can't: if the layers are arranged with care, then as one melts away and the next is revealed, the bar can carry a message or tell a story, the way a book does.

How it started

My "Soapiritual" journey began years ago, when my sister-in-law gave me a bar of handmade lemon poppy seed soap. I fell for it immediately and set out to learn the craft. Along the way I learned which oils are kindest to skin and developed my own preservative-free recipes. Family and friends loved them and kept urging me to share. So here we are.

I use the best recipe I know and strive to make every bar unique. It is tremendous fun to find new ways of making something as ordinary as washing more beautiful and more enjoyable.
